Back at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival for Another Great Year
Some events have energy before the first runner reaches the line. The Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival is one of them, and we were glad to be back.

One of those events we always look forward to
Some events have energy before the first runner ever reaches the line. The Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival is one of them.
Brock Entertainment has been part of this Fayetteville tradition for several years, and it is always a fun one. Runners are warming up. Coaches are checking the final details. Families and teammates are finding their spots. Volunteers are moving in every direction. You can feel the day building before the first countdown begins.
Our job is to bring the music, handle the microphone and help all of that energy move in the same direction. We get to welcome people in, share the information they need and make sure every part of the event feels connected.
What makes the Chile Pepper special
The Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival brings a lot of different runners together on the University of Arkansas cross country course in Fayetteville. Junior high, high school and college teams share the weekend with community runners of all ages.
That mix gives the festival its personality. One minute you are watching a young runner take on a big race for the first time. The next, you are seeing experienced athletes compete at a very high level. Every group arrives with a different goal, but everybody understands the effort it takes to reach the finish.
It also feels like a true Northwest Arkansas event. Coaches, parents, volunteers, sponsors, organizers and spectators all have a part in it. There is a lot happening, but it still feels personal.
A race DJ does more than play upbeat songs
People sometimes hear DJ and think the job is simply to make an energetic playlist. The music matters, especially when runners are arriving early and getting ready to compete, but it is only part of the job.
The emcee work has to be clear and well timed. We help with race instructions, schedule updates, sponsor recognition, awards and the transitions that keep the event moving. We stay connected with the organizers because the plan can change quickly when thousands of people, several races and an outdoor course are involved.
You also have to know when to talk and when to let the moment happen. The microphone should help the event, not compete with it. Sometimes the crowd needs information. Sometimes the runners need encouragement. Sometimes the best thing we can do is put on the right song and let the energy take over.
The start and finish tell two different stories
The starting line has a very specific kind of energy. Runners are focused. Teammates are encouraging each other. Coaches are giving the last few reminders. Everybody is waiting for the signal that turns all of that preparation into a race.
The finish line feels completely different. That is where the work shows up. You see relief, excitement, disappointment, personal records and teammates waiting for one another. Some runners cross with a big celebration. Others are too tired to do much more than take the next step.
Every one of them deserves to hear some encouragement. We work to keep that finish line feeling important from the first race of the weekend through the final runner of the day.
A tradition that gives back
One of the best parts of the Chile Pepper is that the impact continues after race weekend. The organization supports public high school cross country programs in Benton, Washington, Carroll and Madison counties.
The festival reports more than one million dollars in lifetime giving to Northwest Arkansas programs. That is a big deal. It helps young athletes get opportunities, supports the coaches who lead them and keeps the sport growing across our community.
When you know the larger purpose behind an event, the announcements, sponsor recognition and awards mean a little more. This is a great race, but it is also an investment in the next group of runners coming up.
Proud to be invited back
Being invited back to an event year after year means a lot to us. It tells us the organizers trust Brock Entertainment to be prepared, communicate clearly and bring the right energy without making the event about us.
That is exactly how we want to work. We show up ready, pay attention to the people in front of us and help the event feel the way it is supposed to feel.
Thank you to the Chile Pepper team, the volunteers, coaches, sponsors, families and every runner who made this year's festival so much fun. We were glad to be back at the Arkansas cross country course, microphone in hand, helping Fayetteville celebrate another great weekend of racing.
It is all about the experience.
