Wedding Music Tip: Pick the Version, Not Just the Song
You’ve picked your song. Which recording do you love, and what should happen when the chorus hits?

Right song. Wrong timing.
Picture this. It’s your turn to walk down the aisle. You’ve been picturing those doors opening on the first lyric for months. Your DJ plays the song you picked, the doors open, and you’re halfway down the aisle before the singer comes in.
Right song. Wrong timing.
When couples fill out their wedding planner, here’s what I want them to know: if you’ve pictured a moment happening a certain way, tell your DJ what you hear in your head. The song title is a good start. The exact recording and a quick note about the part you love are what help us get it right.
Send the recording you fell in love with
Maybe you heard a piano cover and knew it was your ceremony song. Maybe you and your fiancé always sing along to the live version because the artist changes one line at the end. If you give us just the title and artist, we might find the studio recording and never know that one line was the whole reason you chose it.
Open the track on Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube, listen all the way through, and put that link in your wedding planner. If it’s a live recording, listen to the ending, too. You may love the performance and still want the song to fade before a few thousand concertgoers start cheering in the middle of your first dance.
Tell us what should happen when the music hits
For a ceremony entrance, “start at the chorus” and “I want the doors to open when the chorus hits” are two different requests. With the first, we can start playing right at the chorus. With the second, we might play the intro while everyone stands, then have the coordinator open the doors on the chorus. Same recording, two very different entrances.
A note like this gives us what we need: “Play from the beginning. The lyric I love starts at 0:42, and that’s when I want the doors to open. Our coordinator will cue the doors.”
Choose the part of your first dance you want to keep
Before you decide whether to dance to the whole song, put it on at home and actually dance to it together. You’ll figure out pretty quickly whether you want all four minutes. And if your favorite part is the second chorus, tell us that before asking for a shorter dance. I’d hate to fade out ten seconds before the part you’ve been waiting for.
You don’t have to map out every song at your reception. Start with the moments you can already picture: walking down the aisle, coming into the reception, or sharing that first dance. For each one, send the link, tell us the part that matters, and let us know what you want to happen. We can help with the timing from there.
Already booked with Brock Entertainment? Add your links and timing notes to your Client Portal. If you’ve already submitted your planner, use the Wedding Update form there so we can confirm the change with your DJ.
It’s all about the experience.
